Ocracoke Island Woodworks was started with the goal in mind of providing the most comfortable, well built outdoor furniture at a reasonable price. In the beginning, we spent months designing and redesigning the shape and feel of our prototype chair before we decided on a final pattern. We knew that the key to our success would be to find the perfect fit combined with a beautiful custom look. There are plenty of adirondack chairs out there that look good, but are uncomfortable to sit in (some are too narrow or too low to the floor, or the angles of the seat and back are all wrong). Our wood of choice is a select grade of juniper (white cedar) which has been used for centuries by boat builders for it's natural resistance to decay and insects. This wood is meant to be outdoors! Unlike other woods, such as oak or pine or redwood, it is typically splinter free and naturally resists checking and splitting. Every piece of wood that goes into our furniture is hand shaped and sanded to a fine finish before assembly, and we only use stainless steel or boat builder's bronze screws for our furniture.
Each piece of furniture is hand stamped with our wood burned logo.
